Anti–Virus Protection To Prevent Online Nasties Getting To Your
Computer
By Dirk C Wallace
Anti–virus protection software for your computer is one of the
most essentials tools to have on your computer, especially if
you are on the internet and receive email.
A lot of the viruses are sent via attachments on emails or sneak
onto your computer while you are online. To protect your computer
against these threats, you should buy anti–virus software where
the virus definitions are continually updated and you can get
automatic updates as long as you are online.
You may have heard of free anti–virus programs, but a lot of
these programs do not have up to date virus definitions and quite
often no automatic updates. You may get virus definitions every
now and then, but no continuous updates with the latest virus
definitions.
Online With Your Computer
Let me guess, you're probably on your computer about two or three
hours a day. Does that sound about right? Then again, if you work
on a computer at home or in some cramped cubicle, you may spend
the majority of your day on a PC.
Now, all that time you spend typing, surfing, downloading, reading,
and sending, I hope you're taking some basic precautions. After
all, the last thing you need is a Trojan horse or irreversible
virus destroying your system.
This can be a headache and a half. Not only can it ruin your
work, but it can cost you your entire hard drive. That means saved
material, family photos, downloads, the whole shebang. There's
no doubt you need some decent anti virus protection.
Last year I got hit hard. Not by some drunken shmoe in a smoky
bar either. I'm talking about at home in my own living room. That
place where you feel safe and comfortable at all times.
Unfortunately security has gone out the window when it comes
to cyberspace. Or at least it seems this way at times. I was doing
my usual web browsing. Just searching the net for a few new desktops
to grace my computer screen. Then suddenly it happened.
Screen Went Fuzzy
Just as I downloaded a horror flick wallpaper, my screen went
fuzzy. What was the deal! I was certain I had excellent anti virus
protection. How could I get smacked out of nowhere by some random
computer virus? Well, sadly my laptop was not the same.
I shut it down and tried to restart, but it would not comply.
It was time to consult a professional. He informed me that my
system board was fried. OUCH. This was going to be pricey; I could
tell. I asked him if it was a virus, but he couldn't tell.
Best Anti–Virus Protection
However, I pretty much know it was that darn horror movie wallpaper
I downloaded. That's when it all happened. 450 dollars later,
I had a fixed computer. I immediately got back online and downloaded
the best anti virus protection I could find. I continue to update
once every day. I have turned all the time to check for automatic
updates.
Every day new viruses are written and released on the internet,
that is why you need to be vigilant and be up to date with the
latest virus definitions. Set your anti–virus software for automatic
update and your computer will be current.
Total Protection Of Your Computer
Now it is not only viruses you should be worried about. There
are scripts that walk around your computer looking at data they
can steal, follow your tracks around the internet and report on
your habits.
This is why you need more than anti virus protection. You need
to prevent your computer being taken over by spyware, adware,
Trojan horses and other malicious scripts. This is the reason
to have total protection for your computer with an internet security
suite, where you are protected against viruses, spam, spyware
and all the other nasties of the internet.
After all you want to feel safe and secure that your computer
will stay healthy.
