Business Card Design Highlighting Your Most Important Details
By Joan Kickosawa
If you are just starting out with your own company, then one
of the most essential tools you will need for advertising and
marketing yourself is custom business cards. Business card design
and printing can be a big hassle though.
You may be confused about what information should go on the card,
where the information should be placed on the card, and whether
you should choose full color business cards or simply black and
white. These questions and many others are part of the essential
process of figuring out what will work best for you.
Essential Information On Your Card
The most important pieces of information that should be included
in your business card design include the following: your name
and the name of your company, your contact information, your title
and your tag line. Why do you need to include this information?
Your name should include both your personal name and the name
of your company. Since it is your own business, your potential
clients will need your name and that of your company.
More Details To Include On Your Card
They will probably be able to find you if your name is all that
you provide, but of course, you will list more on your business
card template than just your name and your company’s name. If
you do omit your name, then you would be putting your business
at a disadvantage by hurting your chances of customers being able
to find you.
Most people and businesses now have an email address, thus enabling
them to make contact online. Also include a phone number, though
multiple phone lines like office, cell, and pager numbers are
not necessary.
Include Your Contact Numbers And Your Title
If you want those numbers included in your business card template,
by all means, go ahead and put them on there. You should start
with your office line, followed by your cell number, and then
by a pager. You can include your fax number if it is a large part
of how you do business. It can be placed at the bottom of your
business cards design.
Don’t forget to add your title to your custom business cards.
A title lets your clients know who they will be contacting. It
is not uncommon for the owner of a small business or proprietorship
to use a title such as chief executive officer or president.
Include Your Title Near Your Name
An example would be, if your firm is creative, you could use
the title of chief creative officer as a way to inform your customer
of your position and also add a little more info about your company.
You should put your title under or near your name to make sure
your client makes the connection between your name and title.
A tag line is very important. It can be a short phrase that reinforces
or emphasizes your business’ values. When you think about it,
your client may pull out your business card to locate you because
they remembered what you do and need your contact information.
It is very important to have a tag line to drive home how your
business can help when they first see your business card printing.
Your Company Name And Your Name Should Stand Out
It is a no-brainer to make the name of your company and your
name the most remarkable part of your business card design, as
that will be the information that your potential customers see
first.
The contact information should include, at a minimum, an email
address, phone number and mailing address. A title helps you reinforce
the core competencies of your company. While it is not absolutely
essential, a good tag line can help remind your clients what it
is that you do.

Did You Know This?
What style of business card is best for me?
The style of business card best suited for
you and your business all depends on what line of work you are
in. The best way to determine your style of business cards is
to think about what line of work you are in. If you are in the
construction business then a simple business card on heavy duty
card stock is probably best.
But if you are in a graphic design business
then you want the cutting edge in cards. You want to dazzle your
potential clients with graphic designs on your cards. This will
let your potential clients know that you are a professional with
a strong design skill.
The more unique your card is, the more
likely it is that people will remember it and call upon your services
as a graphic designer. This really applies to anyone who is in
an artistic job. Some of the best cards to buy right now are on
heavy card stock and are glossed. They are not flimsy and will
not tear easily.
