CRM Software Systems
By Dirk C Wallace
Customer Relationship Management, or CRM for short, is an essential
part of every business big and small. CRM systems cover front
office operations by allowing sales and marketing associates to
log information about face to face meetings with customers, email
and phone communication.
They also cover back office operations, so billing, maintenance,
planning and advertising data can be logged. In addition to enabling
better customer care, business relationships with suppliers/vendors,
retail outlets/distributors, lobbying groups, trade associations
and others can also be maintained here.
Improving Customer Relations And Sales
As you see, the business relationship components support the
back office, and the back office supports the front office, which
in turn improves customer relations and ultimately sales.
One area of Customer Relationship Management is "Operational
CRM," where employees can obtain necessary customer information.
For instance, in the past, you might call your Internet provider
to report a problem with your service. They would have to ask
for your name, account number, phone number and address.
Pull Up Past History
Then they would have to ask you about the history of your problem,
if you had called for service help before, when you called, who
took your call, whether your problem was resolved and so forth.
By the time you get to the bottom of the situation, you’re exasperated
and irritated, wondering, "Why didn’t the last person I spoke
to make a note of our call?"
With a CRM solution, the customer service staff may still ask
for your name and account number, but within an instant, he or
she can pull up your past history to better serve you and eliminate
some of the confusion.
Creating Effective Promotional Strategies
The "Campaign Management" aspect of CRM lets sales
and marketing professionals create effective promotional strategies.
For instance, you may be working for Citizens Bank and you want
to send a special offer out to all your loyal clients who have
been with you for over 10 years, letting them know that they can
get a free coffee maker if they refer a friend.
You may be running a customer satisfaction survey and you’ll
need to collect all their data for analysis to see where the bank
can improve services. Maybe you want to review your options and
investigate where your online banking customers browse so you
can find more targeted advertisers to partner with. Also, once
you send out the offers in the mail, you’ll want to make
a note of that so you don’t waste resources or scare customers
off with too many duplicate mailings.
CRM Software Packages For Your Business Needs
As you can imagine, there are a number of CRM software packages
to choose from. Businesses may choose to have hosted CRM from
a third party at a remote location that is accessible via web
browsers and maintained by someone else.
They may decide to have an on-site CRM set up that is maintained
by their own employees. A number of small start-ups offer personal
consultation and web-based hosting opportunities. Currently Siebel
Oracle and SAP are the top two providers but there are hundreds
of others available to you.
