Facebook Proxy And Freedom Of Access

By Christine Wales

Millions of people across the world enjoy Facebook each and every day. They love that there is no Facebook software to download. You simply type in the web address and you are there.

It is a great feeling to be connected to so many friends and acquaintances. You get to share stories and swap information with each other. But the ability to connect to Facebook is harder for some than others. Their business, school or country may be blocking the site. How do you get around that? You use a Facebook proxy server.

What Is A Facebook Proxy Server?

A proxy server is a webpage or website that is a portal to be used to access other sites if you are trying to get around a firewall. A Facebook proxy essentially works by letting you visit an outside website that is not Facebook and using their web browser to gain access to the Facebook login page. You may still run into trouble if your company or school blocks all outside websites.

This is a great networking solution for you to use but it does require that you have network knowledge in order to make this work. Yes, it does allow you to unblock Facebook but some websites do charge a certain fee for their proxy services, yet you can still find free versions that have a limited trial period. However, you may be asking yourself why you would need to unblock Facebook or even why some businesses would block Facebook at all?

Some Countries Block Facebook

The answer to that question lies in productivity. Many businesses and schools believe that you have no business being on a website that does nothing for you besides kill time. Most businesses and schools cite that Facebook has nothing to do with business or school needs. But perhaps the most puzzling issue is why some countries, such as Syria and Iran, would block Facebook completely from their citizens' use.

Users of Facebook UK and Facebook US have the luxury of being able to make any posts or comments that they wish. They can organize events as they see fit. In Syria, Facebook has been alleged to promote attacks and criticisms on the government. The penalty for criticizing the government of Syria is imprisonment.

Some Countries Do Not Allow Freedom Of Speech

In Iran, authorities believe that opposition forces use social networking sites, such as Facebook and MySpace, to organize attacks and various demonstrations against the government. You have to remember that these countries do not have the right to freedom of speech that the United States is founded upon.

Perhaps before you use a Facebook proxy you need to ask yourself a question. Is it worth accessing Facebook at work or in a country where it is punishable by imprisonment? Some people would answer that it is not worth the associated risks.

At least in the United States you are allowed to visit Facebook when you are away from your work or school computer. It may be worth just waiting until you get home.

Did You Know This About Facebook?

How do I create an account with Facebook?
Creating your account/profile is amazingly easy. First, go to www.facebook.com. The initial page will show you were to type in your email address, password, sex, and date of birth.

After you have filled in this information you will have to fill out a CAPTCHCA form. This is essentially a form that makes sure that you are not an automated program creating profiles. Facebook will then send you a confirmation email and you will have to click on the link inside the message.

After that it is a matter of filling in friend's email addresses, your school or company information and begin writing things about your life. You can post notes, add pictures and even join groups that suit your needs. If you are not sure what to put in your profile…surf around for a bit. It might help if you take a look at other people's profiles and then try creating your own unique profile.
