Free Online Computer Classes To Improve Your Computer Skills

By Dirk C Wallace

Learning and practicing computer skills can have a drastic impact on one’s work productivity. Hours can be saved by knowing a few shortcuts for storing and retrieving information from desktop computers or by taking an Excel training course.

Employers do their best to cram as much information into their workers as humanly possible, but sometimes it just isn’t enough. Free online computer classes, taken at their own time and at the own speed, can help an employee gain the necessary skills to reduce frustration and finish work effectively.

Free Online Computer Classes With QuickCert

QuickCert is one program designed to train students to "install, build, upgrade, repair, configure, troubleshoot, diagnose and perform maintenance" on personal computers through their free online computer classes. Students will learn through a combination of methods, from instructor-led computer training courses and online lab classes to multi-media slides and practice tests.

After receiving a free demo, students will have to pay for further courses, just like any school. For example, a Microsoft Word 2007 course costs $105 to achieve Microsoft Certified Application Specialist status in that particular program. For a full year’s worth of education and broader certification, students can purchase a package for $1,895.

Increase Your Skills And Maybe A Salary Increase

While this may seem like a lot, consider that 82% of those who received their A+ Microsoft certification reported a salary increase. Median earnings for a Microsoft Technology certified specialist with 1-4 years experience is $52,072, whereas a specialist with 5-9 years of experience may earn an average of $70,988.

At www.hp.com/learningcenter, students can choose from more than 20 free online computer classes in Microsoft and Adobe programs, in addition to 9 computer programming and web classes or 9 operating systems classes. Students enroll online and take the courses at the most convenient time for them, day or night.

Personalized Feedback And Online Chats

Instructors can give personalized feedback and participate in online chats with students, if they so desire, as well. The primary benefit to learning this way is not only the cost but the time. Working adults can learn on weekends or just a few hours in the evening. These particular classes won’t provide certification or accreditation, but they will teach students the necessary skills to get ahead.

Before choosing free online computer classes, students need to ask themselves what they are hoping to gain. If they merely want knowledge, then these classes are perhaps the best method. If they are looking for certification, accreditation or a degree, then there are better ways to achieve this. Community colleges or accredited online schools like Phoenix or Empire State College offer more official computer training courses.

Did You Know This About Computer Training?

Knowing how to operate a computer is pretty important these days. Most businesses, schools and homes have a computer. You do not have to know everything there is to know about how your computer operates but it does help to know some of the basics.

The same applies to many office software programs that can help with finances, writing or simply sending an email. If your knowledge is lacking, you need some computer training. You can get training from someone else that knows how to run the computer or you can go back to school.
