JS Computer Software Web Tips Guide
JS On Webpages
By Christine Wales
JS or javascript is a language that was created by Netscape and
is responsible for different functions that are performed in browser
windows and on webpages. This language javascript is used to perform
these various functions on webpages when written into the HTML
code. Web users do not have to review their options and specifically
activate any certain program for the functions to work.
There are different types of JS that perform different functions.
Different types of javascript are created when it is combined
with other languages, such as when cascading style sheets are
combined with javascript to form CSS javascript. The new combination
is able to create bold effects when used in dynamic HTML active
scripting.
Showing Information With Clickable Links
A second example of this is PHP javascript; when javascript is
combined with a hypertext preprocessor script. The disadvantage
of this type is that the javascript leaves no room for error,
and will only be displayed correctly if all information is input
correctly.
When an Internet user makes their way around the internet by
clicking links and interacting with the information on different
pages, menus written in JS are triggered. Websites utilize javascript
to allow clickable links to open up new pages to show information.
Activate Annoying Popups
While this is a very common use for javascript, it is not the
only one. Javascript is also used to make images and text appear
when the user rolls their mouse over certain areas of web pages.
Another action that javascript is used for is to initiate the
activation of annoying popups.
Javascript can be disabled as part of a pop up killer program
to block popups from opening in new windows. Disabling JS for
this purpose is also often successful in preventing infected popups
from accidentally being downloaded to the user’s computer.
The Horror Of Click-Jacking
A new trend called click-jacking involves the use of javascript
to cause unaware Internet users to download spyware and viruses
to their computer.
In this use of javascript, specific viruses are scripted into
the HTML code of a pop up ad, and when the "x" button
is pressed a virus is downloaded onto the user’s computer, in
addition to closing the popup.
