Locate Wireless Hotspots For Internet Access

By Joan Kickosawa

If you are part of the growing numbers of people who do a lot of traveling for business, or for personal endeavors, then there is a fairly high probability that you also take along your notebook computer when you are out and about.

If your laptop is fairly new, then it no doubt is equipped with a wireless mobile capability. If that is the case, then as long as you can locate wireless network hotspots, you will always be able to stay connected to the net.

WiFi Laptops And PDAs Allow You To Stay In Touch

The more you travel, the more you need to stay connected with your work or with your family while you are away. The internet and portable devices, such as WiFi laptops and personal digital assistants (PDAs), have made it much easier to stay in touch with the people who are most important to you.

With the increasing number of WiFi hotspots that are cropping up all over the place, it helps even more. But sometimes it can be somewhat tricky to locate wireless access points that are convenient to where you happen to be.

Not so long ago, travelers who wanted to connect to the internet would be excited if they discovered that the pay phones at the airport had a special phone jack available so they could hook up their modem.

Fast And Convenient Web Access

But, these days few people still use, or even have modems in their laptops, nor do they have the patience to use a dial-up connection. They simply want to locate wireless hotspots for fast and convenient web access.

One good way to find WiFi hotspots is to use one of the many online resources that are available, which have listings of the various wireless mobile access points in different areas.

Many of these online WiFi finder websites will show a listing that indicates the average signal strength, the number of users the network node can handle, and if there is free WiFi available or if the hotspot is part of a networking system that belongs to a paid service. Some of these services allow you to pay as you go, while others offer various subscription plans for their WiFi access.

Short Term Subscription WiFi Services

In many cases, the WiFi internet services that provide subscription plans allow you to subscribe for a limited period of time in case you don’t need such a service on an ongoing basis.

The limited subscriptions vary from service to service, but most will provide subscription options for one week or one month at a time. In most cases, these short-term WiFi access subscriptions will be cheaper than the pay-as-you-go option, if you will need the access for more than just a day or two.

Ability To Locate Wireless Hotspots

The main reason why people choose these WiFi connection subscriptions is because they cannot locate wireless hotspots that are convenient to the places they are going to be, and the small cost of the service is minimal compared to the inconvenience of going out of their way to access a free hotspot.

Whether you will be paying for your WiFi internet access or going with the free WiFi connections, you will have to plan ahead and locate wireless mobile hotspots before hitting the road, especially if you plan to get the listing from one of the websites that provide a directory of hotspots.

With the abundance of WiFi hotspots available these days, you should not have any trouble finding a convenient access point, as long as you do a little preparation ahead of time.
