Secondlife Computer Software Web Tips Guide
Secondlife For Adults
By Rainbow Spear
To many, the Second Life game is not really a game at all. Unlike
other online communities, such as Kingdom of Loathing or World
of Warcraft, it is not a place to do battle. It is an area where
avatars live out their daily lives.
Kids have similar online communities, such as Club Penguin, but
Secondlife is for adults. But one thing is certain, you will not
have to battle trolls, demons or were-bunnies.
Avoiding Slow Lag Times And Jerky Motions
Your Second Life guide begins with your system requirements.
The best bet for running the simulation is having a broadband
or cable modem connection. A dial-up connection will work, but
you will experience very slow lag times and your avatar will have
very jerky motions.
What is a Second Life avatar? An avatar is an online representation
of your physical self. It does not have to look like you and can
actually look like anyone you want it to look like. It does not
have to be your gender, race, nationality or even have your hair
color.
Need A Fast Processor And Lots Of Memory
The scripts Second Life runs on were created by Linden Labs.
You need to have Operating Systems 2000, XP or Vista in order
to run the Life software. Your processor must be 800 MHz or faster
and have a 512 MB of memory or better to run.
Remember, the higher the processor and memory, the better your
Second Life game will run, so review your options and consider
using a faster computer when playing your game.
Start With A Free Membership
Secondlife does not require that you purchase a membership plan.
The Basic membership package comes free of charge, but you will
not be able to own any land. That means that you will not be able
to buy or sell any land for profit.
The real estate second life has to offer is a big point of interest
that many people find of great use in the real world. Ebay has
become one of the top sellers of Second Life products, so you
may want to consider upgrading to a package that allows you to
be a land baron.
Can Take Up Too Much Of Your Time
Secondlife is a fun community to be a part of, if you are into
that type of thing. It does require constant maintenance and time.
It is not a fighting game, nor is it something that is easily
discarded.
Many people have picked up interest in the game only to find
out later that it is a huge drain on their time and their pocket
books. Carefully consider these factors before you download and
sign up for this community.
