Spyware Removal Software For Better Security

By Dirk C Wallace

Spyware on your computer can be invasive, often difficult to detect and may lead to identity theft or money stolen from your bank account or credit card. One of the most difficult problems, when it comes to spyware removal from a computer is that you may not know the malicious code is on your computer.

In the old days, when malware authors wanted users to see their destructive powers, but these days they want to spy undetected for a long time and find the data they need to get information about you, without your authorisation.

Computer Security Suites With Anti-Spyware Tools

Seeing the signs of a problem in order to review your security options, may include a sudden slowdown of your computer, even after rebooting. Many computer security suites include anti-spyware tools for spyware removal and detection, so you should run a scan on your computer to locate spyware.

Keep your security software switched on, whenever you are online and even when you are offline, alerting you to suspicious activity on your computer.

Installing New Software

If you are not sure of the trustworthiness of new software installed on your computer, you may monitor it for any suspicious activity. Some free and shareware programs come with spyware, so run a scan on your computer after you install new software.

If you suspect spyware on your computer, then the first step is to go offline and close all internet-related software, so that no information about you goes back to the criminals.

As long as you are offline, this cannot happen. To ensure, you can physically disconnect your computer from the phone line or router, just to be sure that no one is tracking your activities online.

Basic And Advanced Spyware

There are spyware that are easy to find and remove, but other spyware are far more advanced and are designed to hide deep in the computer system.

Some of these programs are not as advanced, and they appear like any other application on your computer. That is why you should check out the Windows Add/Remove Programs list (found via the Control Panel) and search for a new unwanted program, that you did not know was on your system. Once you have told Windows to remove it, restart your computer and see if your computer is running smoothly again.

Scan Your Computer For Viruses And Spyware

Although you may have uninstalled the spyware, you should run a complete scan with your antivirus software (also scans for spyware) to see if there are any other malicious programs on the computer.

Before running the scan, check out and select the options which enable the antivirus program to remove viruses and spyware threats. Just finding them and inform you they are there, is not enough. These threats should be removed from your computer in order to avoid potential damage.

Check Your Browser Settings Before You Go Online

After the spyware and viruses have been removed, you should not go online immediately. You first step is to look at your browser settings and ensure that the spyware did not change them before it was deleted. For example, malicious websites may have been added to your browser’s safe list.

Some of the more advanced online security software alert you to these changes. If you are happy about the sites on your browser safe list and all the viruses, spyware and other malicious code has been removed from your computer, then you should get online, but keep you security software switched on to be alerted to any potential threats to be scanned for spyware removal.
